Rose Scott Women Writers’ Festival

In September, Bravewords partnered with the Rose Scott Women Writers’ Festival in Sydney for their 10th anniversary, presented by The Women’s Club.

As a guest curator, I had the pleasure of running a Writing Memoir workshop, as well as hosting a special Bravewords Live event for Friday night’s soiree, featuring the brilliant writers Nadia Townsend, Anna Downes, K.T. Major and Zeynab Gamieldien.

Thanks to Festival Director Augusta Supple for this wonderful opportunity.

  • Workshop: Writing Memoir with Bravewords

Memoir is one of the most creative forms of nonfiction writing, but how do we find the courage to tell the truth, warts and all? How do we balance being both the narrator and the main character in our stories without becoming overwhelmed?

Join Adrienne Ferreira from Bravewords for this practical workshop that explores imaginative approaches to life writing. With fun prompts and exercises, you’ll practise bringing a sense of play to your writing, even when tackling dark subjects. Gather tips on how to build a story that’s vivid, engaging and honest, while learning how to guard against self-indulgence.

  • Evening Soiree Event: Bravewords Live — The Awakening

Bravewords Live gathers creative people from all walks of live and invites them to share personal stories in front of a live audience. Hilarious, hair-raising, provocative and powerful, these are the sorts of tales told in confidence with your besties over wine and cheese.

Held one a month to sell-out crowds on the Central Coast, they’ve welcomed writers, actors, poets, artists and raconteurs to share their most abrasive lessons and amusing insights into being alive.

For this special Sydney soiree edition, fling open the windows, take a deep breath and brace yourself for THE AWAKENING, true stories about desire rekindled, identities transformed, and new trails blazed by some of our most talented storytellers.
